Urgent Alert for UK Samsung Users: Take Action to Prevent Hacking
As per Samsung, an unauthorized attack has resulted in the exposure of personal information of UK customers, which includes their names, phone numbers, addresses, and email addresses. To ensure your safety, it is advisable to promptly check your email inbox if you have recently made a purchase from Samsung’s UK business, as you might have received a warning message from the retailer.
According to a report on Bleeping Computer, certain individuals in the UK have received letters notifying them that their personal information might have been compromised if they bought anything from Samsung’s UK website between July 1 and June 30, 2020. This was due to a “cybersecurity incident” as stated by Samsung.
Samsung has revealed that the attack exploited a vulnerability in a third-party business application used by the company and had affected only their UK customers. The company spokesperson informed Bleeping Computer that no financial information, including passwords, bank details, or credit card information, was impacted. This incident is specific to UK customers, employees, or retailer data and does not impact the customers in the US.
A Samsung representative assured TechCrunch that no sensitive financial data, such as bank details, credit card information, or customer passwords, had been compromised. If you have any concerns regarding this incident, you can contact support@samsunguk.zendesk.com, who will be in a position to assist you. People are being asked to use new biometric identification technology or make their online passwords stronger. The information was accessed from where it was stored, not by malware or malicious actors tricking you personally. So, it doesn’t matter how strong your password is after the Samsung data leak.
